summer is just around the corner
Well, class is nearing an end and I am kind of surprised. It feels like this has been a v. fast moving train. I look forward to reading my classmates blogs; there are a couple I've checked throughout the term and it is really interesting to see how everyone has a different style.
Last night I discovered people had actually commented on my blog! It was such a shock to think that someone had actually read it, even though I had been reading others.
Other stuff: I can tell that summer really is here, as there is tons going on: Cyndi Lauper concerts, regattas, Top of the Park, and weddings. I haven't actually done most of what is available, most recently my activities include lots of euchre. But still, summer is wonderful.
It is strange to have these be my primary concerns when so much of the U.S. is devastated by floods. I'm from Kansas and used to have friends in Iowa, but they are long gone now. It is strange to begin to think of them again after all this time and wonder what is going on; if their homes -- their towns -- are one of the few not under water.

vanity fair
So I probably won't write much, but I just received my most recent issue of Vanity Fair and this article about the internet was in it (how timely!) I will be honest and say that I've not read it yet but I definitely will given (a) I like VF and (b) I want to know if some of the people interviewed anticipated how big their moves would be. I haven't read it yet b/c I've been too busy getting disappointed by the new Sex & the City movie.

I hate this humidity
I really don't have a lot to write, but I wanted to write that. 'Cuz it is true.

am having fun with css!
my lunch break is up, so I really can't write much, but was having fun with CSS yesterday and today.
Mercury is retrograde and I can really tell; it feels like there is chaos all around.
Supposedly my camera is fixed; hopefully I can get it this weekend.
That's all for now!

animal awareness
So yesterday was animal awareness day for me.
In the span of about an hour I saw:
a chipmunk cross the road and stop 1/2 way; so I stopped until it continued on.
a cat running in a yard (I thought it was going into the street but it detoured at the last minute).
a toad in the road. It was at a 4-way intersection and I pulled up right next to it.
It sat completely still and so then I stuck on my hazards, veered the car behind me to go around, and picked up the toad (well, after a couple of hops) and put him in the grass.
I feel like this is the natural thing anyone would do (I mean, it was at a slow stop intersection not in the middle of the highway) but my hairdresser disagreed.
I then told her about when I did something similar a couple of years ago, only it was on a back road highway and instead of a toad it was a large snapping turtle. (I dropped it when it tried to get my finger, but evenso, it was much closer to the shoulder and headed towards grass!)

just a day
well, it is quite beautiful outside.
I have done little but read however. I did get my haircut & my pits waxed this a.m., so am feeling slightly snazzy.
other life stuff:
my cat Sunny hid under the bed the entire time it stormed last night. Oscar didn't particularly like it either.
my fridge, which has been on the fritz, is now working.
my car still has a flat tire and I don't anticipate getting it fixed anytime soon; fortunately I can borrow my mom's car.
my bike has a flat tire and I intend to repair it this weekend and start riding more!
my digital camera is still in the shop, so no nifty pics of O & S.
I'm using my parents computer as I still haven't sorted some (basic) issues with mine - mainly I need to take time to just PLAY with it and fool around with stuff, but haven't felt I've had the time or inclination to do so.
That's me in a nutshell at the moment.

back to the usual
So I've had a nice long weekend where I did lots of homework and also camped on a farm overnight.
That was pretty fab actually - lots of nice people, good food, and a campfire to keep me warm while musicians played until dawn, and more stars than I've seen in years!
No pics, just memories of people and lots of happy dogs.

nearing the end of the week
Well, it is Thursday afternoon and things are quieting down in the neighborhood (and soon - my life!) as Memorial Day weekend nears.
Mainly home stuff has been prevalent lately:
My fridge is on the fritz, so I'm using the fridge in the empty upstairs apt. My cats are pretty excited by that b/c now it means they have 2 apartments they can run around in.
Also, my landlord is meant to mow the lawn (and I'm responsible for shoveling snow) but he has not yet done so this spring. Consequently I have a nice field with LOTS of dandelions in the front and back that skunks and groundhogs could hide in and I would never see them until too late!
I want to bust out my smokey jane at least once this weekend, and hopefully I won't catch the grass on fire.
Schoolwise, I'm getting back in the swing. I've added a nifty site to the del.ici.ous page and will continue to do so.
That's about it I guess!

eating lunch
I'm eating lunch at work and thought that I'd take a moment to post on my blog.
I'd like to write about something besides getting frustrated when not immediately successful (re: completing exercises) so I thought I'd send along a link to (one of) my favorite websites.
www.cuteoverload.com
Today is a particularly good one b/c there are pictures of polar bears, seals AND wombats!
Also, I found this link from there - strange but kind of fun!

such wonderful weather
It really is so beautiful outside!
I'm finding it hard to concentrate, but I have homework plus I've a lot packed into my weekend at the moment.
Hopefully I will get to make tie-dyes this evening at a 1950's party (wrong decade, I know!)

there's light!
So I feel a lot better after having gone to the Starbuck's session. (Plus I got to use a gift card I received in January!).
AND my text finally arrived today.
AND I could map out - with paper and pen - what fits where. Which helped me a lot in terms of picturing where my work goes; where it fits in the scheme.
That's about all for now.
I get the distinct feeling the my style of blogging is going to fall under Blood's definition of blog -- little blurbs posted frequently.
We'll see if it changes / evolves over the course.

confusion reigns
So, basically, I feel like whenever I go onto our class blog site I am fairly immediately in a large labyrinth where I can not see the walls and have no sense of where I am going.
And I hate filezilla.
See you Wednesday.

At the library
Hi everyone,
I realized I deleted my last post from Tuesday, so I just re-posted it.
Now I'm at the library writing another; it is kind of interesting.
The guy behind me has earphones on, but I can still hear Portishead (who I really like and were recently on NPR.)
Otherwise, all is fairly low-key here on this rainy day.
Yesterday was super-beautiful, and I spent the evening eating yummy grilled food with friends and then listened to them practice for an upcoming gig. (Just two people - not a band, just occasional singers in bars such as Old Town.)

Isabella Rossellini makes a great insect!
Hello Hello,
While this isn't directly school work related (well, not at all really), I thought these vids were pretty fabulous and since I'm supposed to use this space to write what I've been doing with my time - I thought I'd post them here since I enjoyed watching them so much.
Take a peek and let me know what you think! (just fyi: they're all v. short)

First ever blog!
Hi everyone,
This is my first blog!
Like all of you, I will probably be writing about the highs & lows of this class without treating it too much like a journal.
Although I introduced myself on our class page I can say a bit more, so here are some random bits:
I love sunshine & swimming even though I basically just turn pink and then white again regardless of how much sun I get. I've returned to school for my graduate degree after getting my BA in English back in 1993. I just finished reading Madame Bovary, and was actually a little disappointed in it.
